ESSENDON appears poised to leave Geelong in turmoil, after pulling off a massive coup by poaching dual Cats premiership coach Mark Thompson back to Windy Hill. Thompson, a past Essendon captain, dual best-and-fairest winner and multiple premiership player, has agreed to work as James Hird's boss in what is an extraordinary boost for the flagging Bombers, which have lost their way since Kevin Sheedy was axed three years ago. The imminent announcement that Thompson will next year be the Bombers' director of coaching, above senior coach-in-waiting James Hird, is expected to rock the foundations of Skilled Stadium, where Thompson is contracted as the Cats' senior coach for another season. Geelong has long maintained an emphatic stance that Thompson would not be leaving this year. |

Andrew Walker Trade Talk
via AFL Footy Forums - Talking Football - Australian Rules Football Forum by Ben_7 on 27/09/10
afl.com.au
CARLTON’S Andrew Walker is being targeted by the Western Bulldogs, and has been given permission by the Blues to speak to the Dogs
The 24-year-old has already met with Adelaide and there is much speculation that he will go to either one of these clubs. The scenario for the Dogs is complicated because they will be using their first two pics - in a draft already affected by the arrival of Gold Coast - on father-son picks Mitch Wallis and Thomas Liberatore. However, they do have the use of their compensatory first-round pick that they received for Jarrod Harbrow's departure to the Suns. The Blues have rejected a direct swap for out-of-favour Bulldog Andrejs Everitt, but it looks as though he will be traded out as he looks for a fresh start, along with Brennan Stack and Josh Hill, while the Dogs are apparently interested in Geelong's Nathan Djerrkura, who is chasing more senior opportunity.

Finals Ticketing System
via AFL Footy Forums - Talking Football - Australian Rules Football Forum by Ryzenup on 14/09/10
I hate the AFL Finals ticketing system. There is no point being a club member during September! For finals matches, Tickets are released to MCC & Participating Club Members on the Monday. MCC member can get 1 or 2 visitor passes, club members 0.
Tuesday AFL members who can get 2 visitor passes. Wednesday 9am - public reserved seating. THIS IS THE PART THAT ANNOYS ME. You cannot use your Club Membership to purchase discounted tickets after Tuesday, so if you are a club member and you're going to the game with your mates who are not, you must purchase public reserved seating tickets which therefore deems the membership invalid. Doesn't make sense to me but i guess thats the way those crazy bastards down at the AFL House like it! :arghh:

Brad Miller Lifeline/Trade Rumours
via AFL Footy Forums - Talking Football - Australian Rules Football Forum by Ben_7 on 17/09/10
Miller was told last month by the Demons that he would not be offered a new contract but there has been interest from other AFL clubs.
Gold Coast, in search of readymade players to complement its young list, is believed to be among those most interested. He is 27 and has played mainly in the VFL this year but has played some good games there, thhere are still a few years in him i think but the most likely place to go if he wants to continue in the AFL is the Gold Coast. "In his second-last VFL match, Miller booted 10 goals in a dominant display."

AFL Trade Bait 2010
via AFL Footy Forums - Talking Football - Australian Rules Football Forum by TalkingFootball on 6/09/10
As we move closer to the AFL trade dates ... I get the feeling this year more than any of the last few .... there are more players than ever being leaked as AFL trade bait. Wonder Why? IMHO there is no doubt in my mind the Gold Coast Suns & to a lesser extent Greater Western Sydneys involvement in the trading & drafting period cannot be underestimated. Perception or perceived perceptions, may be leading many to think the uncertainty the new teams are causing will see their teams move away from the draft table in favour of the trade table. However, surely and ultimately that will all depend on where your team sits or perceives it sits in the drafting cycle. AFL clubs are getting masters at using the media, but will their actions follow up their words. AFL managers also are equally becoming "even more" media savy to add another weapon to their armory. However, as always the proof will be in the pudding, as the old cliche goes. Suppose only time will tell.

Richmond Trade Rumours
via AFL Footy Forums - Talking Football - Australian Rules Football Forum by TalkingFootball on 9/5/10
Another tough team to try and pick what way they will move during trade period. Normally after a 1st year coach, that finishes 15th, you get the massive clean out. However, timing has never been the Tigers strengths and this year is no exception. Their draft picks at this stage are woeful ... for a team seeking to re-build via "no-short cuts" ... they have no choice to accept the principle "you have to give up good to get good". Their "genuine" trade bait is near non-existent. Top 20 draft picks are essential if the want to continue a rebuild via quality youth. Short-term sacrifice for long-term gain. But dont expect many Tigers supporters to understand that principle. Watch this space!! .. feel free to post your rumour below or start an individual thread for specific players. Have a feeling that Port will continue the re-build via the draft table. So hence look for them to have a few more "high" profile players leave during the trade negotiations.
